/ Turf vs Acrylic

Why turf beats acrylic.

Most tennis courts in India are acrylic hard courts. ILAN's tennis turf is built to compete with them directly, and on the things that matter to players and owners, turf wins: it’s kinder on the body, cooler, all-weather, and cheaper to keep over its life.

Kinder on the body
Sand-cushioned pile cuts the joint load an acrylic hard court puts on players.
Cooler underfoot
Infill dissipates heat instead of storing it, an acrylic coat bakes in the sun.
All-weather play
Drains vertically and dries fast; acrylic pools water and needs squeegeeing.
Cheaper over time
No cracking and an 8–10 yr carpet life beat repeated acrylic recoats.

ILAN Tennis Turf
Acrylic hard court
Player comfort
Cushioned sand-filled pile, noticeably lower load on knees, ankles and hips
Rigid hard coat, high impact stress on joints over long sessions
Surface heat
Sand infill dissipates heat; cooler and playable through Indian summers
Absorbs and radiates heat, can get uncomfortably hot underfoot
Injury risk
Softer footing and controlled slide, fewer abrasion and impact injuries
Abrasive surface, grazes on falls, harder landings
Rain & drainage
Drains vertically through the carpet, back in play soon after rain
Water pools on the coat, needs squeegeeing and long drying time
Cracking
No cracking, tolerates minor base movement and weather cycles
Cracks with base movement, heat and monsoon cycles; recurring repairs
Resurfacing
Replace the carpet once every 8–10+ years
Recoat every 4–8 years; cracks and fading return sooner
Maintenance
Brush and top up sand, simple, low-skill upkeep
Crack filling, re-coating and line repainting by specialists
Installation
Faster, less weather-dependent lay of carpet + infill
Multiple coats with weather-sensitive curing between each
10-year cost
Lower total cost, fewer interventions across its life
Repeated recoats and crack repairs add up over the decade
Classification
ITF-classified Category 5 / Pace 5, a genuine fast court
Varies by coat build; consistency drifts as the coat wears

Comparison reflects typical Indian club and school installations. Acrylic figures assume a standard multi-coat hard court over a concrete base.

The ITF court pace scale.

The ITF rates every classified tennis surface on a court pace rating (CPR), how fast the ball comes off the court, and sorts it into one of five categories, from Slow to Fast.

BellinWinner sits in Category 5, Fast (ITF Pace 5), with a measured CPR of 45, a coefficient of restitution of 0.79, and medium friction. A genuine fast court, not a generic landscape turf relabelled for sport.

Resorts & hotels
A premium amenity court that looks sharp year-round and survives sun, salt air and heavy guest use.

Almost no maintenance.

No cracking, no annual recoating, no resurfacing crews. A sand-filled turf court asks for very little.

Brush
Keep it even
An occasional brush redistributes the sand infill and keeps the pile standing and the bounce true.
Top up
Sand as needed
Top up the silica sand now and then, no specialist crew, no curing time, no court closure.
8–10 yr
Then replace the carpet
When the pile finally wears, you replace the carpet, not recoat a cracking hard court every few years.

Base construction · Hard-court systems

We build the base too.

A surface is only as good as what it sits on. ILAN now builds the base as part of the project, so one team owns levels, drainage, tolerances and the surface on top. Layer thicknesses are finalised after our site survey and soil check.

/ 01 · Excavation & grading

Formation level cut and proof-rolled, falls set at 0.8–1% in one plane for clean, predictable drainage.

/ 02 · Sub-base

Compacted GSB and WMM layers, tested for density, sized to the local soil report.

/ 03 · Concrete slab

M20–M25 PCC / RCC slab, 100–150 mm, with expansion joints and foundations or a ring beam where a court structure sits on it.

/ 04 · Drainage & kerbs

Perimeter channels and kerbing, and the flatness check before any surface or structure is fixed.
