40 mm
evergreen.

Lush, full-bodied lawn.

At 40 mm the pile reads full and green from every angle. A popular choice where the lawn is the feature of the space and appearance matters as much as durability.

Everyday landscaping grass, easy to maintain, cost-effective and ideal for large areas. Supplied and installed by ILAN for landscaping and decorative use, this is a landscape grass, not a sports surface.

/ The 40 mm character

Why 40 mm.

40 mm moves to a double-layer backing with more visible depth. The point where Evergreen starts looking like a feature lawn rather than practical ground cover.

Underfoot

Soft and deep, with a longer recovery than the shorter Evergreen heights.

Traffic tolerance

Moderate to good. Best in spaces that are used rather than constantly crossed.

Specify it for

Residential lawns, landscaped gardens, hospitality grounds, terrace gardens on a controlled budget.

Choose another height if

High-traffic walkways and pet runs, where 20–25 mm stays tidier.

/ How it is built

What is under the pile.

Four things account for how a landscape grass performs over years rather than months.

01
6000 DTEX yarn

DTEX measures the mass of the yarn, how much material sits in each filament. At 6000 the Evergreen filament is built for everyday landscape duty; the Ultra Soft range runs 7300 for projects that need more body underfoot.

02
UV-stabilised polymer

The yarn is UV stabilised so colour holds under direct Indian sun rather than drifting toward grey. This is the single biggest factor in how a lawn looks in year three versus year one, and it is standard across every ILAN collection.

03
Backing build

Backing build steps up with pile height across the collection, single layer at 20 mm, single or double at 25 and 35 mm, double layer at 40 and 50 mm. More layers means better tuft-bind and dimensional stability as the pile gets deeper.

04
Perforated drainage

The backing is perforated so rain and washdown water pass straight through to the sub-base instead of pooling. On a correctly prepared base the surface is usable again shortly after heavy rain.

Every Evergreen height.

All Evergreen heights share the same 6000 DTEX yarn. Pile depth, density and backing build are what change.

Installation.

ILAN supplies and installs. This is the sequence a 40 mm Evergreen lawn follows on site.

01

Site measure

We measure the area, check falls and drainage, and confirm what the grass is going onto. Roll direction is planned here, all pile on a job runs the same way, or joints read as colour changes.

02

Base check

We build the base and check it for level, falls and drainage before anything is laid. Base and civil works are carried out by our own civil team, so the base is ready when the surface arrives.

03

Edge restraint

Perimeter edging fixed so the grass has something to be secured and trimmed against.

04

Laying and acclimatising

Rolls set out and left to relax so the backing loses roll memory before it is cut and joined.

05

Jointing

Seams joined on jointing tape with adhesive, pile direction matched across the joint. Done properly a joint is invisible from standing height.

06

Trimming and fixing

Edges cut to the perimeter and fixed down, following the edging so the finish reads deliberate.

07

Infill and brushing

Ballast spread where specified, then the pile power-brushed upright. Brushing is what makes a new lawn look finished rather than flat.

Almost no upkeep.

Landscape grass replaces mowing, watering and seasonal patching. What little it needs takes minutes.

Weekly
Brush or sweep the pile upright in high-traffic paths and remove leaves.
Monthly
Rinse with water to clear dust, the perforated backing drains freely.
As needed
Spot-clean spills with mild soap and water. Pet areas rinse clean.

Asked often.

How long does Evergreen last?
Service life depends far more on sun exposure, traffic and sub-base quality than on the roll itself. UV-stabilised yarn and a free-draining base are the two things that extend it most. Written warranty terms are confirmed per order, ask us for the current data sheet.
What does double layer backing change?
Tuft-bind and dimensional stability. Two bonded backing layers hold the stitches better than one when the surface is brushed, walked and washed, which matters more as pile height increases.
How does Evergreen compare with the other ILAN collections?
Evergreen is the entry tier, 6000 DTEX at 13,900 density, rising to 14,900 at 50 mm. Backing runs single layer at 20 mm, single or double at 25 and 35 mm, and double layer at 40 and 50 mm. Ultra Soft sits above both at 7300 DTEX and densities from 14,900 to 20,900. All three share UV-stabilised yarn and a perforated free-draining backing, what changes is yarn weight, density and backing build.
Does it get hot in the sun?
Any artificial surface in direct sun warms up, and a deeper pile holds more heat than a shallow one. Shade, a rinse with water, or planning use around the hottest part of the day all bring it down. Worth considering on west-facing terraces.
Can it go on a terrace or over concrete?
Yes. Over an existing hard surface the sub-base work becomes cleaning and checking falls rather than excavation. Drainage still has to go somewhere, we check that at survey, because the perforated backing only works if the surface beneath it drains.
Is this suitable for a sports surface?
No. Evergreen is a landscape and decorative grass. Sports surfaces are engineered differently, different yarn shape, pile, infill and certification. For play surfaces see the ILAN football, cricket, hockey and multi-sport ranges.
What about pets?
The perforated backing lets urine drain through and the surface rinses clean. Shorter heights in the range stay tidier under regular pet use than the deeper ones do.
What exactly am I getting at 40 mm?
40 mm pile at 6000 DTEX, 13,900 density, Double Layer backing, UV-stabilised yarn and perforated drainage. Yarn shape, roll dimensions, total weight and written warranty are confirmed per order.
